The debut album of controversial Lana Del Ray, Born to Die, was released today, shockingly holding court at #1 on iTunes. While her modernized 1960s vocals are quite lovely at times, the artist seems like a gimmick in the music community. She managed to land a performance on Saturday Night Live earlier this month, which - in case you missed it - was a total disaster. She moved awkwardly, like no one had told her how to move, like she’d never performed live - only in her bedroom in front of her skinny mirror, where she stayed within the lines, awkwardly moving her hips side-to-side and, of course, twirling. Her lyrics are so fictitious, so trite, I hope she fades away as fast as she rose to the scene.
